Dear friends, I apologize for the late email. I’m normally a Friday sender, not a Sunday sender! But I had the chance to meet a friend for French fries and put that at the top of my list. #SorryNotSorry! (To make it even better, I stopped for a latte on the way home…. No regrets!)
But this extra time has also served up some nourishing food for thought for me (not ‘French fry and latte’ nourishing but, really, what is…) I had a recent conversation with a friend and the topic of resentment came up. I’ve struggled to start some new projects while others remain unresolved. Pitches that I hoped to land have been rejected by editors. I’ve put in the work, I’ve solicited feedback, I’ve made adjustments, and I’ve tried again. It’s taking some time. I’m still sticking to it. But there hasn’t been a tidy conclusion, a clear-cut sign of success. It’s one of those situations where I’ve had to adjust my expectations and appreciate that it can’t quite happen just because I want these projects’ literal and mental folders filed away. However, they can’t continue to take centre stage in my to-do list. Someone has to shift these things from the front burner to the back burner; aggravatingly, that person has to be me.
