May's Pitching Power Hour is open to everyone
On May 7, harness the power of co-working accountability.
For the past year and a half, I’ve been hosting a monthly meetup called the Pitching Power Hour. Normally a perk reserved just for paid subscribers, this month I’m opening it up for ALL subscribers so everyone can enjoy the power of accountability and get a jump start on their incredible summer writing.
Put Wednesday, May 7, at 11:00 AM EST on your calendar!
So what IS the Pitching Power Hour? It’s a monthly co-working session that harnesses the power of group accountability so we all make progress on our pitches. You know the kind of pitches I’m talking about. The story you totally mean to pitch, the story you absolutely want to get in an editor’s hands but you just….. don’t. Who knows why. You’re waiting until you’re “big enough” to pitch a fancy outlet. You’re stuck dealing with the tail end of another project and it’s hard to open yourself up to a new kind of creative venture. You’re churning around in the aftermath of tax season. And then you blink and six months have flown by and you haven’t sent a single idea to National Geographic, the Toronto Star, or Cosmopolitan.
Pitching Power Hour changes that and all you have to do is show up. We connect over Zoom on the first Wednesday of every month. We start by simply saying hello. We take a moment to briefly share what we’ll be working on. And then we turn the microphones off (and cameras too, if you like) and get down to work in silence, like a homework club. Just before the hour is up, we log back on and report to the group. Did you get that pitch done? Did you send that tricky email? Basically, did you accomplish what you set out to do? You know we’ll be waiting for the answer! That’s the power of accountability.
Over the past year and a half, the Pitching Power Hour has seen REMARKABLE results. Every month, someone tells me that they got a yes from a story they pitched the previous month. There has never been a session in which someone didn’t get a yes. Of course, we get rejections too. (Uh, I got THREE in a row following the last Pitching Power Hour!) But that is a part of freelance life. What matters is that we are showing up. We are putting in the work. And we are getting results.
I love periodically opening up the Pitching Power Hour to all subscribers, paid or not, so everyone can enjoy the camaraderie and confidence that comes from this coworking session. So I hope you’ll join us next week. Again, that’s Wednesday, May 7th, at 11:00 AM EST. Here is your Zoom link. I’ll see you soon!

PS: Not really working on pitching new stories these days? Join us and use the time to work on another challenging task that could benefit from outer accountability. Can you use that hour to power your way through a pile of receipts? Clean out your inbox? Work on a grant application? All projects are welcome!
